Breaker Emerges: Hyper Light Delivers Early Access in June

Hyper Light Breaker: A Fresh Take on Roguelikes
In a new gameplay overview video, developer Heart Machine has revealed the launch date for its co-op roguelike prequel, Hyper Light Breaker. The game will debut in early access on Steam on January 14.
While we’ve seen much of the game’s combat and exploration before, this latest trailer offers a glimpse into the world’s various biomes and the gameplay that awaits. Breaker’s procedurally-generated maps are designed to encourage exploration and survival, making every playthrough unique.
For those who may have lost track, Hyper Light Breaker is the spiritual successor to Hyper Light Drifter, a critically acclaimed action-adventure game. Heart Machine’s goal is to create a roguelike experience that’s both challenging and rewarding, with precise melee combat and a world that’s full of danger and discovery.
Early Access and Challenges
In an effort to bolster its roguelike replayability, Hyper Light Breaker’s developers have been working tirelessly to create a massive open world that’s filled with secrets and surprises. However, this ambitious undertaking has led to delays, and the game’s developers have recently laid off an unknown number of employees.
Gameplay Impressions
I had the chance to try a demo of Breaker at Summer Game Fest, and I was impressed by the game’s challenging combat and tense exploration. The game’s first boss, inspired by Dark Souls’ Artorias, is a formidable foe that requires strategy and skill to defeat.
What’s Next?
With Hyper Light Breaker’s early access launch date announced, we can look forward to exploring the game’s vast open world and taking on its many challenges. I’m also excited to see how the game’s development will progress, and whether we’ll see any updates or new features added in the future.
Possessor(s) Update
Additionally, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Heart Machine’s second project, Possessor(s), a 2D action game inspired by platform fighters like Super Smash Bros., is still on the way despite the studio’s recent challenges.
