Breaking News: Faithful Resident Evil Movie Reboot in the Works with Writer Zach Cregger at the Helm

The Quest for the Perfect Resident Evil Reboot: Four Studios Battle It Out
The Resident Evil series is getting another reboot, and this time, PlayStation Productions is joining the party. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. and Netflix are just a few of the studios vying to revive Capcom’s beloved horror franchise.
A New Era for Resident Evil?
Zach Cregger, the writer and director of 2022’s critically acclaimed Barbarian, is set to helm the new project. Cregger is determined to stay faithful to the games that made the franchise a global phenomenon, with a reported interest in keeping the reboot true to the source material.
The Other Contenders
Shay Hatten, who’s worked on John Wick: Chapter 4 and Army of the Dead, is also on board to co-write the seventh installment of the franchise. It’s an interesting move, given the mixed results of previous attempts, including the 2021 reboot and the short-lived Netflix series.
A Fresh Start for PS Productions
PlayStation Productions, Sony’s production company, was established in 2019 to convert its video game franchises into blockbuster films and TV shows. With their involvement in the Resident Evil reboot, it’ll be exciting to see how they approach this iconic horror series.
A Bumpy Road?
The previous Netflix series, which was swiftly canceled after just one episode, received harsh criticism from fans, with one reviewer summarizing the experience as "Terrible; followed by more terrible; just when you lose all hope, it smacks you with even more terrible." Fingers crossed the new attempts will fare better!
