The Gas-Powered Chevy Blazer Might Be the Next to Go Under the Bus
The Chevrolet Blazer, a popular gas-powered SUV, might be the next victim of the rapidly changing automotive market. According to reports, General Motors is considering discontinuing the Blazer after the 2025 model year, along with the Cadillac XT5 and XT6, and going fully electric or hybrid-only. This move would leave the Blazer EV as the only gasoline-powered option in the midsize SUV segment.

SUVs in Jeopardy: Sales Numbers Tell the Story
In 2024, the Blazer saw a 20% drop in sales, with only 52,576 units sold. Meanwhile, the Blazer EV managed to rake in 23,115 sales. On the other hand, the XT5 and XT6 gained a 6.0% increase in sales, with 26,432 and 20,225 units sold, respectively.
The Shift to Electric and Hybrid
With the shift towards electric and hybrid options, GM is likely re-evaluating its product lineup. The Blazer, XT5, and XT6 would be the last remaining gasoline-powered, two-row midsize crossovers in GM’s US showrooms. The only alternatives would be the Blazer EV and the upmarket Cadillac Optiq.
Other Automakers’ Midsize SUV Plans
Ford has ended production of the Edge and Lincoln Nautilus at its Canadian plant, but will continue to import the Nautilus from China. Stellantis, meanwhile, has not produced a midsize two-row SUV since discontinuing the Jeep Cherokee.
What’s Next for Cadillac?
The brand’s lineup is feeling the impact of GM’s latest changes. In addition to the XT5 and XT6, the XT4 was discontinued to make way for the next-generation Chevrolet Bolt. It’s clear that Cadillac is also going through a significant transformation.
