Google Boosts Phone App Experience for Android and Pixel Users with Major Upgrade

New Features Coming to Google Phone App: Simplifying Call Management
Improving Call Organization for Android and Pixel Users
The Google Phone app may not be the flashiest application on an Android phone, but it’s about to get a whole lot more useful. Developers are working on a new feature that will allow some Android and all Pixel users to browse through their calls with ease. The update involves the creation of new tabs at the top of the screen, categorizing calls into All, Missed, Contacts, Non-Spam, and Spam.
These new tabs were discovered by Android Authority while exploring a beta version of the Google Phone app (version 159.0.718038457-publicbeta-pixel2024 beta). With this update, users will finally gain parity with iOS users who can seamlessly switch between viewing all incoming calls, outgoing calls, and missed calls with a quick tap.
New Call Management Categories
- All: View all incoming and outgoing calls.
- Missed: Incoming calls that you missed.
- Contacts: Incoming and outgoing calls involving a phone number in your contacts list.
- Non-Spam: Incoming calls that did not set off a Spam warning.
- Spam: Incoming calls that set off a Spam warning.
Currently, Android and some Pixel users can view all incoming calls, outgoing calls, and missed calls by opening the Phone app and tapping the Recents tab at the bottom of the screen. Once the update is rolled out, pressing the Recent button will allow users to view their call history sorted into these new categories.
When Can We Expect the Update?
It’s unclear when Google will release this update, but the fact that it’s currently available in a beta version of the Google Phone app suggests it may be some time away. While the update doesn’t include a separate tab for outgoing calls, there’s hope that this feature will be added in the future.
