Super Bowl 49 Preview: Experts Predict Philly Eagles to Stunningly Defeat Kansas City Chiefs

The Not-So-Perfect Predictions of Madden NFL’s Super Bowl Predictions

Since 2004, Electronic Arts has been trying to outdo itself with its annual Madden NFL series, predicating the outcome of the Super Bowl using its algorithm. The results have been, shall we say, mixed. This year, Madden NFL’s latest prediction has been announced, and it’s up for debate whether its track record is worth trusting.

The Winner: Philadelphia Eagles

According to EA, the Philadelphia Eagles will be the victors, defeating the Kansas City Chiefs in a close 23-21 match. While it’s exciting to think that Madden NFL has finally gotten it right, let’s take a step back and examine its accuracy.

The Better-Than-a-Coin-Flip Track Record

It’s not quite a perfect prediction, to say the least. Madden NFL’s track record of predicting the Super Bowl winner isn’t exactly impressive. In fact, its success rate is roughly comparable to flipping a coin. Okay, maybe not exactly, but you get the point. For every time Madden NFL has gotten it right, it’s missed the mark just as many times (if not more).

Let’s Take a Look Back

Here are all the Super Bowls since 2004, with Madden NFL’s predicted outcome and the actual result:

  • Super Bowl 58: Madden NFL predicted the Chiefs to win 30-28; the actual result was 25-22 in favor of the Chiefs.
  • Super Bowl 57: Madden NFL predicted the Eagles to win 31-17; the actual result was 38-35 in favor of the Chiefs.
  • Super Bowl 56: Madden NFL predicted the Bengals to win 24-21; the actual result was 23-20 in favor of the Rams.
    …and so on.

While it’s fun to speculate and predict the winner of the Super Bowl, it’s essential to keep things in perspective. Madden NFL’s track record, while not exactly impressive, still sparks a sense of excitement and curiosity. Will it finally get it right this year? Only time will tell.
