Upgrade Your Security: Why High-End Android Tablets are Being Branded by Cheap Face Unlock Fool’s Gold

The Problem with Android Tablets’ Face Unlock

Android tablets are finally starting to get exciting again. But, there’s one annoying trend that needs to stop – the use of insecure face unlock. It’s time for Android tablets to step up their biometric game.
For a long time, there was little reason to consider an Android tablet. Most options were overpriced, underpowered, or had some dealbreaker. However, recent releases like the OnePlus Pad, Pixel Tablet, and TCL’s NXTPAPER tech have brought some much-needed excitement to the market. Lenovo’s new flagship-tier tablets and TCL’s NXTPAPER tablet have also joined the fray.
But, despite these improvements, many Android tablets are still relying on insecure face unlock as their primary biometric feature. This is a major problem for several reasons.
Firstly, insecure face unlock is a security risk. It’s often easy to fool and can only be used for bypassing the lock screen. Secure apps for banking, password management, and more will still require a full password.
Secondly, using insecure face unlock on higher-end tablets is inexcusable. The OnePlus Pad 2 and Lenovo Legion Tab, both priced above $500, should have at least some form of secure biometrics. This is especially true when budget smartphones offer some form of secure biometrics.
Thirdly, insecure face unlock can negatively impact usability. By skipping secure biometrics, these brands are essentially telling customers to look elsewhere if they want to use password managers or banking apps without manually entering their password every time.
It’s time for Android tablets to prioritize secure biometrics. Would you still buy an Android tablet without secure biometrics?
